Traditions are a big part of New Year’s Eve. Every year there’s a big lead-up to how and where you can welcome the New Year, of course, throwing or attending a massive party to celebrate is definitely on that list. New Year’s Day on the other hand, usually sees most of the world waking up with a blaring headache after a few too many.
As it turns out, we aren’t a fan of drilling headaches and nausea either. So, here are our helpful tips to make sure a nasty hangover doesn’t get in the way of your smooth transition into 2023.
Tip 1. Load up on vitamins
Vitamins have never come in handy as much as they will here, especially vitamin C. We suggest loading up on smoothies packed full of fruits such as strawberries, mandarins and mangoes to really give your body that extra boost it will need to get through the next 24hours of celebrating.
Tip 2. Avoiding congeners
Certain alcohols are known to contain chemicals known as congeners. Alcohols high in congeners tend to contribute to hangover symptoms. This means we want to stay as far away from these as possible, including Whiskey (especially bourbon), cognac, and tequila. Gin, vodka and rum will be the smarter options here as these alcohols contain lower levels of congeners which for you means being one step closer to avoiding that nasty hangover the next day.
Tip 3. Eating fatty foods
We have all heard that we should stay away from fatty foods yet today fatty foods especially avocado will be your best friend. It has been proven that consuming fatty foods before drinking helps slow the absorption rate of alcohol. Another tip is to make sure that you're not drinking on an empty stomach as we all know that never ends well.
Tip 4. Stay hydrated
Even before your event begins make sure you are well-hydrated. Alcohol leads to dehydration so it is important that you prep your hydration levels the day before and the day of drinking. We recommend hydralyte water the morning of.
If all else fails we are here to get you through it. Here's our top tips to really knock that hangover that just won't leave you alone.
Tip 1. Stock up the fluids.
As soon as you wake up the first thing you should be reaching for is a glass of water. By sipping on water throughout the day it will help flush out all of those nasty toxins and rehydrate your body so you’re ready to go and enjoy the rest of your celebrations. We know water can be painful to get down when you're hung, opt for drinks like fresh juices and electrolyte water to really replenish your fluids.
Tip 2. Let’s go bananas
Bananas are a great way to replenish your body as they are packed full of potassium and magnesium not to mention they’ll help replenish the lost salt levels. You can also make a smoothie with bananas to help give you that extra boost.
Tip 3. Rest up
Nothing helps more than a power nap to give your body the rest it really needs and deserves. Schedule in a quick power nap before you get ready to head out again, but don't rest too long a quick 20-30min nap will allow you to feel better and still have the energy to get up and continue your day... any longer than that and you can kiss your day goodbye.
Tip 4. Stay away from coffee and Chai
Caffeine will further dehydrate you and aggravate your nausea further. Although it might be awfully tempting to reach for that mug of warm coffee in the morning, today water will be your best friend. Keep drinking as much as you can throughout the day.
Tip 5. Keep eating
Don’t let your body starve it needs food more than ever. If your stomach is a little uneasy, we suggest sticking to soups and water-based fruits where possible. Making sure that you are still eating at regular intervals and not leaving big breaks in between.
