Jayme and Alannas valentines day proposal

For many women, we are dreaming about the day we are proposed to from the moment we saw our first fairytale. Whether you are high school sweethearts, or met through mutual friends, or even online – what matters is you found love and it’s time to make it permanent.

A lot of stress can go behind a proposal for the one who is doing the proposing, choosing the perfect ring, place, time, and words.

To make this long-awaited moment run as smoothly as possible, Left Bank Melbourne in conjunction with My Proposal Co and many other amazing suppliers were able to give one lucky couple the opportunity to win Melbourne’s biggest valentine’s day proposal giveaway - that couple was the gorgeous Jayme and Alanna.

Their proposal was nothing but a dream, the love and joy that filled the room was unmatched. Recently we were able to get in touch with love birds to hear their love story, here’s how it went…

Tell us your love story, how did you meet?
Alanna and I met at the beginning of Covid-19. We both had each other on social media, however did not really do anything about it until one day, Alanna replied to one of my posts I shared on Facebook. I replied and the conversation did not end. From that day on, we spoke every day and night on Facetime and played FIFA against each other online until we finally met face to face. We could not believe how much we had in common. We both have a passion for soccer, and our first date was at the local soccer pitch, kicking the ball around. It was love at first sight.

How long have you been together?

11 months

When was the moment you knew you were meant to be together forever?
The first time we met face to face, we both knew that we were going to be in each other’s lives forever. The way we both feel about each other is a feeling that we have not felt before with anyone else. The feeling is the same every day.

Jayme, what made you enter the giveaway competition?
My mum actually sent me the competition post on Instagram and told me to enter, for weeks I’ve been talking about ways that I wanted to propose to Alanna and I guess it was just meant to be, I’ve never been one to win competitions so honestly filling out the form I really had no thought of actually winning it.

If you didn’t win the giveaway, how were planning on proposing to her?
There were so many ideas running through my mind for so long about how I would do it but I was so indecisive. I would have really loved to do it somewhere overseas, maybe in the middle of Old Trafford or during a Football match in England, I don't know there were so many ideas but all I knew was that it needed to be perfect, and it turned out to be perfect anyway so I couldn't be happier.

What was your initial reaction when you were contacted by My Proposal Co to find out that you had won the giveaway?
To be honest I thought it was a prank, like I said I’m not one to win competitions at all, but I do remember that I asked Tania if she was serious maybe 10 or 15 times before I actually believed her, my heart was pumping and all I was thinking about was how was I going to keep it a secret from Alanna, I tell her absolutely everything so I really had no idea how it was going to go down.

Run us through the proposal day, where did Alanna think she was going? Did she have any idea what was happening? How nervous were you on a scale of 1-10?
The story I came up with was that I won a competition through work and I won a buffet breakfast at Metropolis, a dinner at Left Bank and accommodation but as soon as I came up with that I realised that it meant that I wasn't going to be able to eat until after the proposal was all done, lucky enough it worked out because my nerves were at an 11 out of 10 and my stomach was turning from 5am when I woke up so there was no chance I would eat until she said yes!

We got into the Langham car park about  30 minutes before we were meant to be there, Melbourne decided to not have any traffic for the first time in a long time so I had to stall, we walked down Southbank and decided to get a coffee, the whole time we were walking all I was thinking about was what I was going to say and making sure that I put the ring on the right hand, so in my head I had a million things racing through and all Alanna was thinking about was whether she would be having pancakes or scrambled eggs for breakfast! I then got the call saying that we could head up to the room and from that moment every second felt like an hour and every muscle in my body locked up. We finally got to Metropolis, Alanna was seated in the foyer and I walked through to “check in” and as soon as I saw the set up I was in awe! It looked perfect and I was about to propose, both our families were there and it was all finally happening! Everything I thought I was going to say to her completely went blank and my legs wouldn't stop shaking, she was walking towards me and all I said was “yeah breakfast had to be cancelled” we laughed she cried and I dropped to one knee and asked her to marry me and thankfully she said yes, we celebrated with our family, made all the surprise facetime calls to family and friends who didn't know and it really was a special moment, one of the best moments of our lives together 100%. We celebrated all day and throughout the night as well, plenty of drinks, surprises from friends meeting us in the city, it really was the perfect day!

Alanna, what was going through your head on the day? Were you expecting this?
I was feeling very excited as Jayme and I missed out on going out for Valentine’s Day. I thought Jayme was taking me to a fancy venue for breakfast. I was definitely not expecting a proposal that day. He told me prior that he won a competition at work which included a night away with free breakfast, dinner and accommodation. It was very believable. I was completely amazed and could not stop smiling when Jayme proposed!

Finally, what are you looking forward to the most about married life?
There's so much we both haven't been able to do thanks to Covid, we constantly talk about travelling, we both have family in different parts of the world so of course the first chance we get we’ll be going to see them. We recently bought a block of land as well so now while planning a wedding we also have a house to design and build which is a massive milestone for us, we both worked really hard and to see what we could achieve in such a short time was very rewarding for us.

Of course, with married life comes family and both mine and Alanna’s family are the best around, they have supported us both so much through absolutely everything and we both can't thank them enough for raising us to show love and care and that’s something that me and Alanna are extremely proud of.

Our own family, we both are so excited to one day become parents, growing our already crazy family with mini versions of both our personalities, hopefully being successful and just as full of life and maybe lucky enough to have Alanna's blue eyes.

To say that I have a life partner in Alanna is an amazing feeling, and I will make sure to walk by her side and hold her hand proud to call her my wife.
