The Melbourne Food & Wine Festival
On Saturday the 23 rd of March, Left bank Melbourne participated in the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival. The Melbourne Food and Wine festival sees thousands of Food and Wine lovers flock to the banks of the Yarra along Southbank Promenade.
As well as claiming our traditional seafood bar, Left Bank Melbourne also partnered with Oakridge winery to create a stall featuring six Yarra Valley wines.
The Oakridge stall also offered sensory activities for guests to give them an insight into what a winery actually looks like. It included different soil samples, different leaves from the vines at Oakridge winery as well as the opportunity to taste the fermentation process these wines undergo during “vintage”.
This year, we also collaborated with The Plate up Project , an initiative launched to assist women who have fled domestic violence or may be homeless. The Project aims to give these women an opportunity to re-enter the workforce by teaching them hospitality skills.
We had a number of celebrities jump on board to support this initiative providing a grape stomping event . Our MC’s Sonya & Sacha, interviewed Leon from Oakridge wines to gain an insight into the process of making wine. They tasted some of the award-winning wines from Oakridge and asked inquisitive questions that every occasional wine drinker has thought but never been able to ask.
That’s Amore Cheese also made an appearance with Gorgio (owner of That’s Amore), hosting a Mozzarella making class with previous Master Chef contestants Pia Gava and Jo Kendray . Giorgio also shared the remarkable story behind that’s Amore Brand.
We introduced celebrities such as Ra and Krishool (fitness models and professional dancer), Krishool (signer and previous Voice contestant), and our much-loved Master Chef contestants, who all pledged to get their “feet dirty” to raise money for the Plate up Project.
Together, we raised $7230, with Left bank Melbourne making a donation of $2000. The funds raised are being used to build kitchen facilities for women to complete hospitality training and certificates.
We are very grateful for the support of our customers and these celebrities who worked to make this event an enormous success. The day was filled with many laughs and of course, a lot of food and wine!
