It has been one hell of a year for us all. 2020 started off promising as many people made their New Year's Eve resolutions and claimed to take on 2020, making it the best year yet. It wasn’t quite the year we imagined, but none the less, it was still a year we will never forget!
So, as we start winding down and getting ready to bid farewell to 2020, we thought it was fitting to look back on some of the best moments we had this year at Left Bank Melbourne!
At Left Bank Melbourne this year, we got into the Aussie spirit hosting a good old fashioned Aussie terrace BBQ serving up pulled lamb BBQ burgers all day long. We also invented a special treat for the cocktail lovers, a pavlova cocktail! It was a great day spent in the sun with friends and family bopping along to the resident DJ.
What can we say, we are romantics at heart… and nothing makes us happier than hosting a Valentine’s Day event on the Southbank Promenade! Of course, we had an exceptional three course meal with paired wines but the highlight for us was our pop-up florist. We partnered with @petalpop _flowertruck who set up an astonishing display of red roses in our venue for guests to purchase or order for delivery. Needless to say, there was a lot of love going around the week leading up to Valentine’s Day.
As we started making plans for our Easter weekend, we were forced to close our doors due to the all too familiar, COVID-19 pandemic. It was a shock to everyone, particularly the hospitality industry who either had to adapt to the situation or close their doors for good… Left Bank Melbourne trialed a small takeaway menu for a few weeks but we soon realized that Left Bank Melbourne is known best for the “experience” at our venue and we felt that was simply something we couldn’t package up and put in a takeaway box. So, it was back to the drawing board. Eventually, we joined forces with our loyal suppliers to bring you the “Left Bank Mercato” – an Italian inspired market that sold essential goods while giving customers access to the experts in the field for a truly memorable shopping experience. It was a chance for the community to come together, continuing on with some normality throughout a very testing time. We are so happy to be back doing what we do best now, but this little pop up was still a Left bank favourite event…
After many long months in lockdown, we were excited to stretch our legs and get out and about again! While we weren’t able to open to the same capacity that we were used to, it was still so good to get back to serving up our famous cocktails and a la carte menu. We decided to re-open with a classic, annual event- the Spring Racing. Usually, these events take months of planning but given the time restrictions we faced, we all joined forces to create and open the ticket sales for the event in just two days. And what an amazing few days it was! We had G. H. Mumm as a sponsor for this event who provided glamourous décor for the “picture-perfect moment”. Thankfully, the weather held off and we put on a show to remember, with a gigantic screen out on our lawn! While smaller than usual, it was certainly one of our favourite events for 2020!
It felt like we blinked and Christmas Day was here! It was a privilege to be able to host such a special day surrounded by friends and families, when so many other countries around the world were heading into another lockdown period. We had our usual interactive food stations set up including the famous raw bar and charcuterie station, followed by an exquisite three course meal. Also on offer was our classic bottomless beverage package. It truly was a Merry Day! And after the last glass was drunk and the final folk placed down, our team all sat down to enjoy their own “family lunch” together to celebrate a year well done!
We wanted to take the opportunity to thank all of our loyal customers who have stuck by us over the year 2020! It has been an incredibly busy couple of months as we found our feet again and tried our best to fit everyone in under the new restrictions. We are sorry if you did miss out or if you were unable to get a hold of us, but we hope to welcome you back in 2021!
P.s. If you are still thinking about New Year’s Day, we have a Mumm Garden Party being held on our new “Yarra Deck”.
